Since we are all getting ready to usher in the new year, symbolically it is important that gardens are green & blooming and homes decorated with healthy, vibrant plants. Take care to remove all dead, dying and decaying plants from sight. Bring them into your house or gift them to your near and dear ones and see lady luck smile on you.
CHRYSANTHEMUMS – With their bright gold or purple hues, chrysanthemums are an auspicious choice for the season. The plant is said to symbolize longevity, while those with gold blooms represent wealth and prosperity.
It grows well when placed away from the sun or in shaded areas. Water twice a day till water flows out from the bottom of the pot. Avoid watering the flowers directly as they are fragile.
JADE PLANT – This evergreen succulent, also known as crassula, is regarded as a symbol of prosperity, continual growth, wealth and fortune. It requires very little moisture – water sparingly every alternate day. Place it in a semi-shaded area. Its emerald green leaves resemble the shape of a jade stone. It can also be grown as an indoor bonsai.
These plants are placed near the entrances to restaurants to create success or bring luck for the business. At home, you can place them at the Southeast to energize money luck. Their thick leaves are loaded with water, so they are used to attract money and wealth.
AZALEA – They are considered to be the symbol of happiness, harmony and balance in life. It is used to foster and strengthen relationships. Nothing is more beautiful than an azalea shrub in bloom. These easy-care shrubs come in many colors and growing and caring for these shrubs is not too hard.
These shrubs prefer cool, lightly shaded sites. They have shallow roots and require a well-drained, acidic soil making them exceptional candidates for containers.
LUCKY BAMBOO – Bent, twisted and twirled into various shapes, the lucky bamboo is the Chinese symbol for strength. The plant can be decorated with red ribbons and lucky ornaments, and the number of bamboo stalks in one pot represents different things. For example, two is said to be an expression of love, while seven stands for good health.
The plant requires little care. Just stick the stems in fresh, clean water and anchor them with pebbles. Change the water every 7 to 10 days.
ORCHIDS – Orchids are considered as the Flowers of Spring. They are emblems of love and beauty. Their fragranced flowers represent virtue, moral excellence, refinement and reputation. They also symbolize good family luck and plenty of progeny. Violet colored orchids are said to be the most auspicious.
