We know about Valentine’s Day, but February 14 is the start of National Nestbox Week also – an opportunity to look at your garden and see if you could do more to help nesting birds.
National Nestbox Week takes place each year from 14-21 February, and after more than 15 years it is now an established part of the ornithological calendar.
National Nest box Week aims to encourage everyone to put up nest boxes in their local area in order to promote and enhance biodiversity and conservation of our breeding birds and wildlife.
So why not put up a nest box in your garden to help the birds.
Things you need to attract beautiful birds in your garden:
- Plants that attract birds: Every garden should have variety of plants! With a little planning, you can bring in these gorgeous fliers with colorful plants that attract birds.
- Water and food for birds: Birds need a continuous supply of fresh clean water at all times of the year, for both drinking and bathing. A source of water can dramatically increase the number of wild birds you attract in your backyard. Birds that may not visit your feeding station will visit water.
- Bird house: While most people give it little thought, we bird lovers know that part of attracting birds to our gardens means providing them a suitable home in addition to feeding them. So what types of birdhouses are available? Let’s check on nurserylive.com.
With decreasing natural nest sites, bird boxes are becoming increasingly important for our birds population.
Make sure that you get the right bird box and seeds, the staff at nurserylive Centre can give you advice on how to attract more birds to your garden.
