Use fishnets as fences. They are not expensive, look like metal and so deter both boar and gaur. Monkeys stay away because they are scared of being caught in the net

  • Another option is to use motion detectors rigged to a sprinkler system of some kind. You can water and scare the monkeys off at the same time.

  • A very common deterrent is to cover the plants in pepper spray so that if the monkeys try to eat the plants, they will burn their tongues.

  • Hang some colorful rubber snakes in polythene bags…it helps for sometime till an intelligent MONKEY finds out the truth.

  • Place a few stout sticks near the vegetables you want to be protected from monkeys. They have an aversion to sticks (as we all do).

  • Rotten eggs, mixed with water also works in some areas. Some farmers burn sticks dipped in phenyl.

  • Make sealed small packets with boneless dry fish pieces and keep around the field. After opening the packets monkeys rub the fish with both hands. They hate the smell and constantly rub their hands on rocks till they bleed. They don’t come back after that.

  • Fences are the most common deterrent and for monkeys, you would need one that has a ceiling. Chicken wire is a common fencing material for this. It would almost be like you are building a chicken coop for your plants. You can either build one that encircles your whole garden or you can build individual cages for each plant that can be lifted off when you need to harvest.
